Firm Evolution
1980’s: Adriana
Savino & Barry Miller started as a partnership
in Miami Beach in 1985 as a collaborative approach
between architecture and landscape architecture for
the creation and preservation of outdoor living spaces
complementing the architecture and enlivening urban
spaces. Our work focused on gardens, patios, courtyards,
open space improvements, color schemes, and gate designs
for the Deco buildings throughout Miami Beach’s
Art Deco District. Some of the early projects include
The Alamac, The Fenimore, and The Park Vendome.
1990’s: Savino
& Miller Design Studio incorporated in 1993 and
expanded its scope of work to include various public
sector projects such as Streetscape Master plans,
Urban Design Guidelines, Master Plans, Hotel Resorts
and small scale Architecture/Interior Space Planning.
SMDS established collaboration with many local, national
& international architecture & engineering
firms such as Arquitectonica, Zyscovich Inc., Consul
Tech Engineering, Duany Plater-Zyberk, Kimley Horn
& Associates, Spillis Candela & Partners,
STA Architectural Group, Legorreta Architects, and
SOM, among others.
Many municipalities and institutions are part of the
list of clients: City of Miami Beach, City of Miami,
City of Coral Gables, City of North Miami, City of
North Miami Beach, FDOT, Miami Dade Community College,
Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami-Dade School Board,
and the Dade County Aviation Department. Private clients
included Streamline Properties, Loews Hotels, Pacific
International Equities, Johnson and Wales University.
Some representative projects during 1990’s include,
Coconut Grove planning Study, Brickell Avenue Median,
41st Street Master plan, Miami Beach, North Miami
Beach City Hall & Police Facility Master Plan
and Landscape Plan, Loews Convention Center Hotel,
Bali Resort / Condominium in Indonesia, and Johnson
& Wales University Landscape Master plan.
2000's: Savino &
Miller Design Studio is well established in South
Florida where it continues to work on a diverse range
of projects, varied in scale and theme. Our collaboration
with multidisciplinary teams is exemplified in the
successful completion of the landscape master plan
for the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza Hotel in Miami Beach
, Washington Avenue Master Plan, Metro Zoo Master
Plan, Coconut Grove Planning Study, and the Design
District Landscape Master Plan.
Current projects include Master Plans and Construction
Documents for several Miami Beach neighborhoods including
Nautilus, Orchard Park, La Gorce, North Shore, Biscayne
Point, the Venetian Islands, and Belle Isle Park project.
SMDS has successfully completed work for Miami Dade
Community College, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Aventura
City Hall, and many residential and commercial projects.
